At Skycell, we've spent 19 years earning trust the old-fashioned way — face to face, across a counter, in 10 stores around Kollam. This Privacy Policy is our promise that the same honesty applies online too. This page explains what information we collect when you visit skycell.in (or interact with us through WhatsApp, phone, or our enquiry forms), why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. If anything here is unclear, write to us at [privacy@skycell.in] — a real person will reply.
1. Who We Are
Skycell is a mobile and gadget retailer with [10] stores across Kollam district, Kerala, India. Our registered business name is Skycell, GSTIN 32AKEPR3582J1ZY, , with our head office at [Second Floor, East Block, Bishop Jerome Nagar, Kollam].
For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, Skycell is the Data Fiduciary — meaning we decide what personal data is collected and how it's used. You are the Data Principal — the person whose data we handle.
2. What Information We Collect
We only collect what we genuinely need. Here's the full list:
2.1 Information You Give Us Directly
When you fill an enquiry form, book a repair, request an exchange estimate, subscribe to offers, or message us on WhatsApp:
- Name
- Phone number
- WhatsApp number (if different)
- Email address (if you provide it)
- Your nearest preferred store
- The phone or product you're enquiring about
- For repair bookings: device brand, model, and the issue
- For exchange estimates: brand, model, age, and condition of your old phone
- Anything else you choose to share in a message or form
2.2 Information We Collect Automatically
When you browse skycell.in:
- Device and browser type
- Approximate location (city level, used to suggest your nearest store)
- Pages you view and how you arrived at our site
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 7)
2.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive limited information from:
- Google Business Profile — when you leave a review or click "Get Directions" from a Google listing
- Meta (Instagram and Facebook) — when you message us through those platforms or interact with our ads
- Payment partners (Bajaj Finserv, HDFC, ICICI, and other EMI providers) — if you apply for finance through them at our stores, they share approval status with us
- Analytics tools — Google Analytics provides anonymised usage data
2.4 What We Do Not Collect on This Website
- We do not collect or store your bank account, debit card, or credit card information on this website. Any payment for in-store purchases happens directly between you and the store or finance partner.
- We do not ask for your Aadhaar, PAN, or other government IDs through the website. If finance applications require these at our stores, they are collected and stored by the finance partner, not us.
3. Why We Collect It
We use your information only for the reasons below — never for anything else without telling you first.
- To respond to your enquiry — call you back, send a WhatsApp reply, or confirm your visit
- To book and track repairs — including SMS or WhatsApp updates on repair status
- To estimate your phone's exchange value — and confirm the final value when you visit
- To tell you about offers — but only if you've agreed to receive them
- To improve the website and our stores — by understanding which pages and products people care about
- To meet legal and regulatory obligations — such as GST, consumer-protection records, and warranty documentation
- To prevent fraud or misuse — for example, blocking spam form submissions
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your data. We do not rent it. We share it only in these specific situations:
- With our store teams — so the team at your preferred Skycell location can serve you
- With brand partners (Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and others) — only when needed for warranty registration, service claims, or authorised after-sales support
- With finance partners — only if you apply for EMI and only with the information needed to process that application
- With our website and IT service providers — hosting, analytics, and form-handling tools that help the site function (we use providers who meet recognised data-protection standards)
- With law enforcement or regulators — only when legally required, and only the minimum needed
We never share your data for someone else's marketing.
5. How Long We Keep It
- Enquiries that don't lead to a purchase or visit: kept for up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Repair and service records: kept for 5 years, since you may need them for warranty or follow-up service.
- Exchange estimate enquiries: kept for 12 months .
- Purchase and warranty records (collected in-store): kept as long as required by law and for the warranty period of the device.
- Marketing consent and preferences: kept until you withdraw consent.
- Website analytics: anonymised data retained for up to 26 months by Google Analytics.
When the retention period ends, we either delete the data or fully anonymise it.
6. Your Rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the following rights — and we'll honour every one of them:
- Right to know what data we hold about you
- Right to correct any data that's wrong or outdated
- Right to erase your data (where we're not legally required to keep it).
- Right to withdraw consent for marketing or any other purpose, at any time
- Right to grievance redressal — to raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (see Section 11)
- Right to nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf in case you're unable to
To exercise any of these rights, write to [privacy@skycell.in] with "Data Request" in the subject line. We'll respond within 30 days.
7. Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses cookies — small files that sit on your device — to make the site work and to understand how it's used.
Types of cookies we use:
- Essential cookies — needed for the site to function (you cannot disable these).
- Analytics cookies — Google Analytics, to understand which pages help you and which don't.
- Marketing cookies — Meta Pixel and similar, to show relevant Skycell ads on Instagram and Facebook (only if you accept).
- Preference cookies — to remember your preferred store or language.
To exercise any of these rights, write to [privacy@skycell.in] with "Data Request" in the subject line. We'll respond within 30 days.
Your control: when you first visit the site, a cookie banner asks for your consent. You can change your choice anytime from the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. You can also block cookies through your browser settings — but some parts of the site may not work as smoothly.
8. How We Protect Your Information
We take security seriously, even though we're a retail business and not a bank:
Types of cookies we use:
- The website runs on HTTPS (encrypted connection).
- Form data is transmitted over secure protocols.
- Access to enquiry data inside Skycell is restricted to staff who need it to do their job.
- Our staff are trained on customer data handling.
- We work only with hosting and IT partners who meet recognised data-protection standards.
That said — no system on the internet is 100% bulletproof. If we ever discover a data breach that affects you, we'll notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as required by law, without unnecessary delay.
9. Children's Privacy
Skycell does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18 years of age through our website. If a parent or guardian believes their child has submitted information to us, please write to us at [privacy@skycell.in] and we'll delete it promptly.
For in-store purchases by minors, we follow the standard practice of requiring a parent or guardian for the transaction.
10. WhatsApp, Social Media, and Third-Party Platforms
When you message us on WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook, those platforms have their own privacy policies that apply alongside ours. We see only what you send us. We don't have access to anything else on those platforms.
If you click an external link from our website (for example, to Google Maps, a finance partner's site, or a brand's official page), that destination has its own privacy policy. We aren't responsible for it — please read theirs separately.
11. Grievance Officer
In line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000, you can reach our Grievance Officer for any data-related concern:
Name: [Ms Betsy] Designation: Grievance Officer, Skycell Email: [grievances@skycell.in] Phone: [+91-83118 83118] Office address: [Second Floor, East Block, Bishop Jerome Nagar, Kollam, Kerala – PIN 691 001] Hours: Monday to Saturday, [10:00 AM to 6:00 PM]
